Abstract
Abstract (en Anglais) : The analysis of human-marine ecosystem interactions has shown, through several studies, the vulnerability of coastal ecosystems to anthropic action. This can take several forms, ranging from urbanization to the simple exploitation of natural resources. Spread over 1,622 kilometers, the Algerian coastline presents a fairly marked diversity of marine biocenosis, but despite this variability, we observe a fragile ecosystem constantly threatened by degradation due to the concentration of populations, economic activities, and infrastructure along the coastal strip. The present research aims to establish and enrich the algal floristic inventory in Algeria, to evaluate the pollution by heavy metals at the level of the sampled sites, and to valorize two brown algae Cystoseira compressa and Padina pavonica as biosorbents of heavy metals and bioactive molecules. For this purpose, our choice was made of 13 stations on the Algerian West Coast. The inventory is carried out on the mediolateral and upper infralittoral zone. The determination is made by a description of the species, which is accompanied by an original photo realized from a representative living specimen, and interpreted by comparison with historical data. This inventory has allowed us to identify 80 species, 21 Phaeophyta, 17 Chlorophyta, and 42 Rhodophyta. Among these inventory, 15 species were newly mentioned in Algeria. The study of water quality of the West Algerian coast is based on physicochemical analyses and the dosage of two heavy metals (Cadmium and Lead). All the results obtained from the different parameters measured show the presence of a metallic pollution with maximum values for Cd of the order of 0.13 ppm at the level of the station of Bousfer, for the metal Pb, a value of the order of 0.840 ppm was recorded at the level of the site of Agla 2. For the measurement of the depollution, we proceeded to the biosorption of Cadmium and Lead by contact with the polluted water and the algal biomass (Cystoseira compressa and Padina pavonica) the result shows an adsorption of Cadmium with a maximum percentage of about 15% by Cystoseira compressa. The last part consists in the study of the biological and phytochemical activities of the extracts of Cystoseira compressa and Padina pavonica. The results obtained show an antibacterial activity of the different extracts towards several bacterial strains Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus cereus and Candidas albicans; the phytochemical screening revealed a richness of the two algae in active substances of polyphenols and flavonoids; an interesting antioxidant activity of the methanolic extracts of Cystoseira compressa and Padina pavonica.
