Abstract Precipitation of phosphorus naturally present in water, in the form of struvite (MgNH4PO4.6H2O), is an interesting alternative for water treatment. This process makes it possible both to decontaminate waters rich in phosphates and to produce a compound that can be used in agriculture. In this context, the objective of this PhD is to develop an analytical approach for the recovery and recovery of phosphorus in the form of struvite applied to the treatment of phosphate water. This study consists, firstly, in determining, at constant temperature, the optimum pH conditions favoring the maximum efficiency for crystallization of the struvite in terms of conversion and purity. In order to do this, a synthetic effluent containing PO43- , NH4+ and Mg2+ ions in equimolar proportions served as a model solution for studying the role of pH on the effectiveness of struvite precipitation as well as on crystal growth. The experimental tests were carried out by precipitation in stirred tank with a kinetic monitoring by conductimetry, at a constant temperature maintained at 25 ° C. and at a pH varying in a range between 8.5 and 11.8. Under the ideal conditions which appear from the previous results, we have continued this work, using real effluents (urban wastewater, industrial effluents and natural waters). Various methods for the analysis of solid and liquid phases (spectrophotometry, IRTF, SEM, DRX and FRX) have been used. The specific contribution of this work is of technological and economic interest by contributing effectively to the recovery and upgrading of the phosphorus contained in the polluted waters. | |
